Take on the Challenge of Piestewa Peak’s Summit Trail
- Distance: 2.4 round trip
- Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
- Elevation: +1,190 ft
- Rating: Extremely Difficult
There’s nothing like the triumphant feeling of taking on a challenge and winning. Especially if winning means breathtaking views from a 2,612 ft desert peak. Those moments at the top mean you’ve pushed yourself mentally and physically, in the best way.
One of the most demanding hikes in Phoenix, Piestewa Peak’s Summit Trail offers an awesome physical challenge. The 1,200 ft climb in just 1.2 miles is rated Extremely Difficult but the reward for those who make it to the top is stunning panoramic views of the valley.
We’ll begin our hike on an old concrete path. As we climb the trail nicknamed “Nature’s Stairclimber” the concrete path evolves to a well-worn mountain trail. Gaining even more elevation this tricky trail bends and curves within the mountain, hiding the summit from our view. Despite the tricks this trail can play, you’ll never doubt your success. I’ll be there by your side, affirming your ability to tackle the mountain.
We’ll do a bit of rock scrambling to get to the top, but once there, you’ll be in awe of the tranquil three-hundred-sixty-degree views of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. If you are looking for a triumphant experience and don’t mind heights or sharing the trail with lots of locals, this hike is for you.
