Managing Stress with Physical Activity and Nature
I’m so proud of my first live TV appearance. I had the goal of delivering a vital message and I did it. I even had fun. However, the days leading up to my appearance were filled with anxiety and flares of chronic pain due to the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder I experience.
I heard my subconscious brain loudly and clearly questioning everything. So how did I make it through? I listened to the advice I was preparing to deliver; use physical activity and nature to manage stress. I hit the trails as often as possible in the days before my appearance.
After an early morning trail run in the gorgeous Sonoran Desert I had engaged my parasympathetic state and completed the stress response cycle. The time I spent in nature helped to restore my fatigued attention span. My cognitive load and physical pain were lightened.
